In The Herald: We must support this forgotten group of carers

On the 8th March (International Woman’s Day) The Herald published an opinion piece by Margaret Chiwanza, our CEO.

Today is International Women’s Day, a global date celebrating the achievements of women. This year’s theme is to "inspire inclusion"; yet one group of women is often missing from thInternationale IWD fanfare: unpaid carers from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds.

The very nature of caring means that carers themselves - the vast majority of whom are women - are rarely in the spotlight. Much of the vital, challenging work they do goes on quietly, behind closed doors, looking after sick, elderly or disabled relatives or friends.
