An exhibition showcasing artefacts with Nawken history. Items in Perth Museum’s collection donated, used and made by Nawken people.
On display are some items associated with traditional activities and the lives of Gypsy/Travellers living in Perth & Kinross. The objects, handed down through the generations, have been lent to the museum by local families.
A display of documents and photos from the family archives of Patsy Hilton and Margaret McKenzie which give a fascinating insight into two families through the generations. Also on show is artist Stacey Hilton’s artwork A Storytellers Coat which has stories her great-grandfather told around the campfire embroidered on it.
Open to Gypsy/Traveller community members only - Bring along an object of special importance to you and share stories of life on and off the road. Lunch included!
In partnership with the Nairn Book Festival. Residents will have the opportunity to have their sketch done and these will be displayed at the Nairn Book Festival in September
In celebration of Gypsy, Roma, Traveller History Month, come to an evening of entertainment as Patsy Hilton and Margaret McKenzie discuss their early lives on the road, memories of living on camps, their families and the rich traditions and culture of the Gypsy/Traveller communities.
Light refreshments will follow.
