Self-Directed Support and Gypsy/Travellers

In 2011, MECOPP began working with Gypsy/Travellers in three localities of Scotland: Edinburgh and the Lothians, Perth and Kinross, and mid and north Argyll. Using community development approaches, the project works to: raise awareness of informal caring within the community; develop and deliver a range of services to support families; build capacity of statutory bodies to respond more appropriately to identified need; and, assist local and Scottish national government in the development of policy and practice.

COMMUNITIES OF IDENTITY AND SELF-DIRECTED SUPPORT

MECOPP (Minority Ethnic Carers of People Project) teamed up with Diversity Matters to develop the Everyone Together programme for Minority Ethnic groups, thanks to funding from the Scottish Government. Everyone Together is a two-day workshop that brings together people with disabilities, carers, local authorities, and professionals from other organisations to learn together about SDS, explore outcomes, and to discover the assets, strengths and skills of their communities and localities.
