Response from MECOPP to the Equal Opportunities Committee Inquiry into Gypsy/Travellers and Accommodation

MECOPP welcome the Scottish Parliament Equal Opportunities Committee (EOC) inquiry into Gypsy/Travellers and care. MECOPP is an independent registered charity providing a variety of services to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) carers and people in receipt of care.

In May 2011 MECOPP began working with carers within the Gypsy/Traveller community in rural and urban areas of Scotland - Edinburgh and the Lothians, Perth and Kinross and Argyll. We have a small staff team working with those in the Gypsy/Traveller community who have a caring responsibility for a family member or friend. We work with carers, of any age, who live in housing, on sites and on roadside camps

Integration of Adult Health and Social Care in Scotland: Consultation A Shared Statement from Third Sector Organisations

The third sector welcomes the intention to improve outcomes through better integration of health and social care. The sector – both as a conduit for the voices of people who use services, and as a major provider of support and services – has long campaigned for integrated, effective support that enables people to access their right to independent living. This means people having the same freedom, choice, dignity and control as other citizens, being able to participate in society and live an ordinary life.
