MECOPP is Scotland’s leading Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) carers’ organisation. Established in an independent charity in 2000, the organisation provides a range of direct services to support BME carers and carers from other marginalised communities undertake or sustain a caring role. These include: multilingual advice and information; casework support; education and training opportunities; individual and group support; recreational, social and therapeutic activities and healthy living programmes
MECOPP also has a successful track record of developing and delivering a range of innovative services and projects which are funded through discrete income streams and delivered across Scotland. These include our Gypsy/Travellers’ carers’ project, specialist support for South Asian people with dementia and their carers’ and our self-directed support project. A complementary service is provided to our statutory and mainstream voluntary sector partners through input into policy, service and workforce development.
Aims of the Post
The aim of the post is to assist individuals (both SDS funded and non-funded) to create a tailored support package which meets their personal outcomes drawing on community resources and other services. This will be achieved through the ongoing development and delivery of a community brokerage service within Edinburgh and the Lothians; and, the establishment of a reciprocal ‘community asset bank’ – for example, linking up students who need practice hours with individuals who would like to receive a service. In addition to this, the post holder will have shared responsibilities to assist in the development and delivery of a range of training opportunities to health, social care and mainstream voluntary sector practitioners.
This post is funded until 31 March 2021. The successful candidate will be required to complete a PVG check.
